Names, Titles and Characters of Jesus Christ

When you are talking about beliefs, faith or religious systems, nothing causes more reaction with people than the claim that Jesus is the one and only way to God and heaven. For most people, that claim simply feels wrong, it seems arrogant, it is most certainly confrontational, it seems unloving, and it causes many to turn away from Him.  I suppose that if you asked people who say they believe in God or some higher power and in a life after death, they would tell you that they believe they will spend eternity with God or that higher power in a place commonly referred to as heaven or paradise.

The Case for Christ
I would like to spend a few paragraphs making the case for why Him and not someone or something else. Of the six billion or so people in the world, about two billion claim to be Christians, another billion or so Muslim, another billion or so non-religious, atheist, agnostic, and another billion Hindu, and then a mix of Jewish, Buddhist, Spiritualists, etc. make up the rest.  If you compare the leaders of these systems, I think you will see that Jesus is unique in every way.

I am sure a full review of all the differences would take pages and pages but these stood out for me.

If you accept what the bible teaches that Jesus was virgin born, led a sinless life, performed many miracles, claimed to be God, was crucified for His claims, was resurrected from the dead, and fulfilled hundreds of prophecies given hundreds of years before His birth, then you would logically conclude He is who He says He is.  You would also find yourself hard pressed to not pay attention to what He said.  We have His words recorded in the New Testament in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  It would certainly be arrogant, confrontational, narrow minded, and unloving for me to claim on my own that Jesus or any other person or way was the only way to God.  I certainly believe it but I did not make the claim.  Jesus did.

In talking with Nicodemus Jesus said about Himself in John 3:17-18 “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”  In talking with his disciples in John 6:29 he answers their question about what they must do to do the works of God with “the work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”  Again in John 6:40 “For my father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day.”  And finally, when Jesus is comforting his disciples before being handed over to the Sanhedrin by Judas; Jesus makes it absolutely clear in John 14:6-7 “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.  If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well.  From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

If there were other ways, somewhere in the New Testament Jesus would have told us.  If it just took believing in something and being sincere about it, He would have added that. If following a religious system (such as Catholicism) was enough, He would surely have said so.  But He did not; He said He was THE WAY.  That is why I have placed my faith in Him and confess He is “The One and Only.”

If you have never believed in Jesus Christ and never accepted Him as Lord and Savior of your life, I would pray that you do that very soon.  Ask Him to forgive you, tell Him you surrender all to Him, and let Him give you the free gift of eternal salvation. What a great Easter present that would be for you and your family. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen

The belief that does not save is the belief that does not change the person who believes. Jesus said that if you believe in Him, you would be changed
